LingoBlend uses an Anki-style algorithm (SM-2) that schedules word reviews at increasing intervals based on how well you know each word. New words start with short intervals (10 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours), then graduate to longer intervals (1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 120 days). Combined with daily goals and streak tracking, this produces up to 25% higher retention than traditional study methods.

Each word in your dictionary has two memory boosters. First, tap "Add Image" to search millions of photos and pick one that captures the word's meaning — research on dual coding (Paivio, 1971) shows this makes recall 2-3× stronger. Second, add a Memory Trick — a personal note linking the word to something you already know (e.g. "pato" means duck and sounds like "pot," so picture a duck with a pot on its head). The keyword method (Atkinson & Raugh, 1975) shows this kind of personal association boosts recall by 1.5× compared to rote memorization. Once you've added images to at least 3 words, you unlock Immersive mode in Flashcards — you see only the image, then try to recall the word.

Yes! Free users can import up to 3 word lists per month from CSV files, plain text, or Anki-formatted exports. Pro users get unlimited imports. You can also use the Photo Import feature to scan foreign text with your camera, or browse pre-built word packs across 25 categories — beginner and intermediate packs are free, while advanced packs are Pro-only.

Word Story is a Pro-exclusive game that generates a personalized short story using your saved dictionary words, entirely in your target language. Choose Read mode for a paginated reader or Listen mode with high-quality audio narration and speed controls. After each story, answer 5 comprehension questions to test your understanding. Up to 20 stories per day.

Yes. At signup you answer one plain question — "How much Spanish do you know?" — and Smart Blend targets words just beyond that level (the i+1 comprehensible-input zone). As you save words and play the games, your measured vocabulary takes over from the self-assessment and keeps adjusting as you improve. You can change your level any time in Personal Details, and blends also skip words you have already mastered.

A knowledge map of each of our 17 languages: roughly 3,000 of the most useful words — selected from real usage frequency — connected by word families, synonyms, antonyms, confusable pairs, and topics, plus an index that resolves inflected forms to their dictionary form (so "despierta" counts toward "despertar"). Your saved words and review history place your personal knowledge on that map, computed on your device with no extra cost. It works behind the scenes and powers Smart Blend personalization — blends skip words you've mastered, boost words due for review, and favor new words connected to vocabulary you already know — plus, across the rest of the app: Related Words chips and word-family grouping in your dictionary, a Because You Know suggestions rail, review sessions that keep easily-confused words like puerto and puerta apart, a Tricky Pairs comparison view, % known badges on graded stories and book chapters, and a running vocabulary-size estimate.

It counts the words you've proven across spaced-repetition reviews — graduated out of the learning phase, not just anything you've saved — and collapses inflections into one dictionary entry, so "hablo," "hablé," and "hablando" all count once toward "hablar." That count pairs with a CEFR-style level (like "roughly 320 words · A2"), using the same machinery that personalizes your blends. It appears on Practice once you have about 15 proven words, and it's a floor, not a ceiling — it only measures vocabulary learned inside LingoBlend.
